We counted every connecting room we can book in America. Here's where they are.

The Suiteness editorial team

2,347 connecting rooms across 896 hotels, in 46 states and DC. Which cities have them, which brands they come from, and the four states where we have none.

A connecting room on Suiteness is a specific pair of rooms (occasionally three or four) that a hotel has agreed to sell together, with the door between them written into the reservation. Because each one is a commitment rather than a hope, they can be counted. So we counted them: every connecting room that was live and bookable on the site in the United States in the first week of November 2026.

For scale, we list just under 38,000 hotels in the US, so roughly one in forty has a connecting room we can guarantee. That doesn't mean the other 37,000 have no interior doors. Plenty of them do. It means a door only counts here once the hotel will commit to it when you book. Most hotels still treat connecting rooms as a request: a note on the reservation that gets decided at check-in, depending on who is already in the room next door. We don't count requests, and when you're booking for a family you shouldn't either.

New York has the most, but it has them the way New York has everything: a few at a time, across a lot of buildings. That works out to three per hotel. Las Vegas has almost as many in half as many hotels, nearly six per property, because the big resorts were built with families and groups in mind. Caesars Palace alone has 19.

Orlando's total hides how concentrated it is. Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek has 50 connecting rooms on its own, more than all of Miami. Add Lake Buena Vista next door, where the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort has 20, and the Disney side of the city has 167.

Coronado is the outlier in the other direction. It has 46 connecting rooms and only two hotels: Hotel del Coronado has 32, and Beach Village at The Del has 14. If you're going to Coronado with a big family, you're choosing between those two.

Nevada and Texas show the two shapes inventory can take. Nevada's 203 rooms sit in 39 hotels, nearly all of them in Las Vegas. Texas has 148 spread across 86 hotels, fewer than two per hotel, with Houston the largest share at 34. In Nevada you can usually pick the hotel first. In Texas you're more likely to pick the room you can get and accept the hotel it comes with.

Hawaii punches above its hotel count: 63 connecting rooms in 13 hotels. Grand Wailea Maui, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, accounts for 20 of them.

Where there are almost none

Four states have no connecting rooms we can guarantee at all: Idaho, Rhode Island, South Dakota and Wyoming. That isn't for lack of hotels. We list between 95 and 242 hotels in each.

Three more have exactly one each:

  • Alaska: Home2 Suites by Hilton Anchorage/Midtown
  • New Hampshire: DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown
  • West Virginia: Hampton Inn & Suites Parkersburg Downtown

Vermont has three and Iowa has two. If you're travelling as a family in any of these states, a two-bedroom suite is the more realistic way to get a door between you and the kids.

The brands, and a caveat about them

Hilton accounts for 57% of the total. Read that as a measure of what we can sell, not of what each chain builds. Hilton publishes its connecting-room products to us directly, which lets us turn them into guaranteed pairs at scale. A brand lower in this table may have plenty of interior doors that it doesn't commit to in advance, or that it sells through channels we don't carry yet. Marriott's 46 is a good example: 20 of them are at a single resort, the Orlando World Center Marriott.

Caesars and Four Seasons have the opposite profile to Hilton: few hotels, many rooms per hotel. That reflects the kind of property they run. Big resorts are where connecting rooms get built on purpose.

What a typical hotel looks like

The median hotel on this list has two connecting rooms. 415 of the 896 have exactly one. That's the number to keep in mind when you're planning around school holidays. At most hotels, connecting rooms are a single combination that sells once, not a room category with depth. If the dates are fixed, book the pair before you book the flights.

How to use this

  • If the city is flexible, let the inventory choose it. Las Vegas, Orlando and Coronado have several connecting rooms per hotel, so you can choose on price and location instead of taking whatever is left.
  • If the city is fixed and thin, widen the room type. Search two-bedroom suites alongside connecting rooms. Both put a door between you; they just put it in different places.
  • Check the live count, not this article. Hotels add and retire connecting rooms all the time. Every destination page shows the current number, and Ask Suiteness will search them for you if you describe the trip.

If you're not sure what makes a connecting room different from an adjoining one, start with our explainer. The difference is the whole point of this list.
