Old Fort Bay is a waterfront community on New Providence Island, just to the east of Lyford Cay. Unusually, Old Fort Bay has a series of canals that wind through the entire neighborhood, so that almost every house is on the water, whether it’s the ocean or a canal. And on the ocean side, there’s Old Fort Beach, which many consider to be one of the best beaches on the island. There’s a mix of architecture within Old Fort Bay, with houses ranging from Caribbean-style villas with shingle roofs to Georgian mansions. Most residents mingle at Old Fort Bay Club, which was originally, well, an old fort, and which lends its name to the development. Built in the 1700s to defend against pirates, the building has been renovated with a pool, tennis courts, and fine dining, while retaining much of its old Bahama charm.
