New York Bars

The only place to book connecting hotel rooms and suites. Here's how.

We'll be brief, this is, after all, New York. So the following are award winning bars hosted by some of the nation's most celebrated bartenders. Enough said, cheers!

Best Bars in New York

The Dead Rabbit | FiDi

Reminiscent of a bygone New York era, this 19th century inspired tavern packs the bare-knuckled character of the historic five points gang name it carries. Enjoy a pint stout, sip from their staggering collection of whiskey's, served in ornate teacups or make your way up to the private parlor for a list of over 70 reimagined historic drinks. From fizzle to julep smashes, the recondite elegance of these cocktails make Dead Rabbit a wholly unique experience, dolloped with vintage sophistication.

The NoMad | NoMad

An elegant Saloon within the equally stunning NoMad hotel, this refined watering hole has cocktail concoctions that sedate Bond-like standards. Hosted by James Beard award-winning owners, this bar will soothe your debutant leanings and offer up everything from ennobled pub food to $198 dollar cocktails.

Death & Co | East Village

Upon entering, customers are lead through a plush felt curtain and into a glamorous gothic underworld of glinting chandeliers, cushy booths, den-like lighting and an assortment of genially crafted drinks. The superb bartenders at Death and Co conjure up an experience of palette-altering cocktails like their Cafe Sandanista, with rum, sherry, coffee and chile-infused Campari, fresh orange and lime juices, demerara syrup, and a pinch of salt. Essentially, an ours d'ovre of inspired mixology.

Pegu Club | SoHo

This second story bad & lounge from New York's mixology queen, Audrey Sanders is a welcome departure from the classic crowded barroom scene. Asian furnishings, low hanging den-like tables and her electrifying Gin-Gin mule–homemade ginger beer with Tanqueray gin, fresh mint, and lime juice, continue to quench the wayward visitor's thirst with inimitable craft.

Suffolk Arms | Lower East Side

In a self-aware yet subdued refined atmosphere, this cocktail lounge offers quintessential classics with a touch of craft magic alongside an eclectic menu that takes from Latin, Asian, and Jewish cuisine. If that isn't interesting enough, you'll enjoy the sobering of charm it's mahogany bar and walls painted with NYC icons.

PDT | East Village

We could not leave this list without one or two of New York's famous speakeasies. Walk into an old phone booth inside a hot dog shop (search Crif Dogs), pick up the receiver, and a hostess will open the back wall of a room. Smoky bacon-infused Old-Fashioneds, guava-spiked house-made ginger beer and hot dogs on tap. Needless to say this taxidermy-filled backroom, with its prohibition era feel will lend you just the right amount of novelty and craft mixology for a great night out.

Maison Premiere | Williamsburg

Harkening back to Bourgeois charm of the New Orleans historic french quarters, as opposed to the seedy Bourbon Street, this elegant salon is host to a well-heeled crowd and offers up mythically revered oysters and absinthe. If you stop during the week, you can get $1 East Coast and $1.25 West Coast oysters from 4-7pm. All-in-all this is one of New York's premier bars.

Back Room NYC | Lower East Side

The Back Room makes our list for being one of the few remaining real prohibition-era speakeasies. With an opium dream-like quality, this regal 20's inspired bar is lined with red wallpaper, gold-framed portraits, a slow-burning fireplace and velvet sofas. A truly local experience, cocktails come in teacups and Monday nights are fueled by live jazz. Find the Lower East Side Toy Company sign on the street. Go through the metal gate, down the stairs into a dark alleyway, and on the other side, you’ll find another set of steps leading to a door.

As Is NYC | Midtown West

Perhaps one New York's signature craft beer bar. Anytime is as good as any to sit back with a quality brew, and the rotating 20 beer tap here will keep you interested on every sitting and brick tiled walls and hardwood floor will keep you comforted. Not to mention some kickass sandwiches to quell the buzz. Ask the bartenders on recommendations and they'll be sure to dish out something to please your hop-loving taste buds.

Brooklyn Winery | Williamsburg

A working winery smack in the heart of Williamsburg appeals to the connoisseur and even the uninitiated with its reclaimed wood and furniture decor, experimental in-house wines and a showcase barrel-fermented riesling. This likely one of the best domestic wines you'll try, and if you're not please, well there's always a rotating selection of about 11 in-house wines as well as international varietals on tap or by the glass.
