New York's got such a long list of things to see, and do. From Landmarks to museums, parks, and shopping. Finding some run of the mill things to do in New York, or even finding the time for them, can be hard. Despite this, we thought we'd list some of the more locally loved activities in the city to during your visit.
Best Things to do in New York
Explore Central Park I Central Park
Sure it's kind of a given, but this vast dreamland of lush greenery always has something to offer, no matter the season. Rent a boat at the Loeb Boathouse, take a walk through sheep meadow, named for the sheep that once actually grazed there, or take a pass through the Central Park Zoo. This is a place to revisit, anytime you're in town.
Nitehawk Cinema I Williamsburg
A great spot to catch some classic or independent films, this awesome cinema serves a full menu of food and drinks brought to your seat throughout the show. There's also a full bar at the lobby for a few pre-show drinks.
Lincoln Performing Arts Center I Colombus Circle
Home to the New York City Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera, Alice Tulley Hall, the New York Philharmonic, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Visit the center, if not to catch a show, then simply to be awed by this beautiful art deco masterpiece. The Lincoln Arts Center is New York at it's finest.
Smorgasburg I Williamsburg
A veritable food cornucopia, this weekend event boasts over 100 local vendors selling culinary delights from the neighborhoods top trending food and beverage scene. The shops will set up around 11 am along the Williamsburg waterfront, and will go all day until 6 pm. You'll find everything from ramen burgers to masala tacos, great city views, and lovely green areas to lounge and pass the time.
The Comedy Cellar I Greenwhich Village
The iconic comedy club sees the likes famous Comedians like Louis C.K., Michael Che, Dave Chappelle, Dane Cook and others. An essential New York experience that no visitor to the city should skip, buy tickets in advance online. But be prepared to meet the 2 drinks minimum at the bar, although, really, not like that's some big punishment.
The High Line I Meatpacking District
A great spot to visit with friends or family, this unique urban park is built on elevated railroad tracks. Enter the park on 34th street from the 11th Ave entrance and enjoy some leisurely walking. You'll get an amazing view of the Hudson, some of New York's best architecture, and a number of cafes, chairs, benches, tables, sustainable gardens, and artistic landscaping stretched across the park. The High Line is a local favorite and a must-see spot.
Barcade I Williamsburg
As the name suggests, this is a bar filled with arcade video games from wall to wall. There is nothing like it, with classics like Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Paperboy etc. They also happen to serve some great craft beers.
Tenement Museum I Lower East Side
An inspiring preservation of the heartfelt history of immigration in New York. Told through the personal experiences of the generations of newcomers who settled in and built lives on Manhattan's Lower East Side. This is one of the more particularly New York experiences that get at the heart of how the city came to be.
Kat'z Delicatessen I Lower East Side
This New York staple is as much a foodie destination as it is a tourist experience. Frequently packed, and a local favorite, the theatrically grumpy service here is an homage to an older New York. It's also a great spot for a bite after your visit to the Tenement Museum. Order up a pastrami loaded, open-faced sandwich, to get the full LES experience.
Yankee Stadium I Concorse
Even if you don't like the Yankees (which you should never utter aloud in NY), you can't miss the opportunity to watch this great American team play. Moreover, just catching a game at this new and modern stadium is worth the visit. Check out the game schedule ahead of time and plan a day with family or friends. Also, don't sleep on the hotdogs, they won't disappoint.
